An initiative designed to encourage healthy habits among young children to reduce future risks of non-communicable diseases.
Sesame Workshop India, in partnership with the Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP), is providing technical support to develop and implement an integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD) model in the state.
The ECD package designed for frontline workers follows a life cycle approach, supporting children from conception to 8 years of age. It comprises five packages tailored for pregnant and lactating women, children aged 0-3, 3-6, and 6-8, as well as adolescent girls. This comprehensive package integrates cross-cutting themes, including nutrition, health, emotional well-being, gender, inclusion, positive parenting, and WASH. Additionally, it includes training a cadre of Master Trainers on the integrated ECD package, who will, in turn, train frontline workers. It also features ongoing assessment of the ECD curriculum rollout to continuously refine content and implementation, along with comprehensive process documentation serving as a reference guide for practitioners.
This initiative is designed to improve ECD outcomes, ensuring alignment with the State’s ECD Mission. As part of this vision, Sesame Workshop India is working to transform Anganwadi centers and health facilities into vibrant hubs for holistic development, ensuring a seamless connection between education and healthcare through strategic multistakeholder collaborations. By integrating health, nutrition, education, and protection services with play-based learning, the program empowers young children for lifelong success. Together, we strive to position Meghalaya among the top 10 states in early childhood development in India.
Our playful, culturally rooted, and research-informed teaching and learning materials will soon reach 6,000 Anganwadi centers.
To help bring this curriculum to life in communities, we’re building the capacity of 60 government Master Trainers who will thereby cascade their knowledge and skills with nearly 5,900 Anganwadi workers and over 6,200 ASHA workers, empowering them to support children’s learning and well-being every day!
With funding from Abbott, Sesame Workshop has launched Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds, a multi-country initiative including in India. It adopts a holistic well-being and preventative approach to raise awareness on the importance of balanced nutrition, quality sleep and physical activity among children and key influencers in their life.
