Sesame Workshop India addresses nutrition through targeted initiatives utilizing a range of engaging educational materials to promote healthy eating habits among children and families.
Focus on Prevention Rather than Intervention
With funding from Abbott, Sesame Workshop has launched Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds, a multi-country initiative including in India. It adopts a holistic well-being and preventative approach to raise awareness on the importance of balanced nutrition, quality sleep and physical activity among children and key influencers in their life.
Sesame Workshop India’s “Healthy Habits” initiative which aims to help children build healthy habits that last a lifetime. This initiative, supported by Abbott, focuses on helping families establish healthy habits for children in India to reduce illness and lay the foundation for lifelong health and well-being. The resources provided emphasize the importance of good nutrition alongside adequate sleep and hygiene, tailored to local contexts.
Nutrition is also integrated into the “Learn, Play, Grow” initiative. It addresses several thematic areas critical for early childhood development, including health and nutrition, alongside literacy, numeracy, emotional well-being, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and school readiness.
The Meghalaya Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) includes nutrition as a cross-cutting theme within its Early Childhood Development (ECD) package. This comprehensive package is designed for frontline workers and includes training to improve outcomes for pregnant and lactating women, infants, and young children up to 8 years old, covering various aspects including nutrition.
